Space Race

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________

NASA’s rover Curiosity successfully landed on Mars early Monday on a mission to better explore the red planet. Projects like this are considered difficult and even though the US has cut funding to NASA other countries are looking to compete in the new space race. China is spending more and more resources on space exploration and is planning a mission to the moon by the second half of next year. To talk more on this, astronomer and blogger Phillip Plait joins RT’s Kristine Frazao.

India and other African countries are said to follow after.

The space race seems to be quickly turning into a commercial contest. Since NASA retired its space shuttle program last year, about a dozen companies have stepped up to develop crafts to explore the final frontier. Johnathan Card of the Space Frontier Foundation explains what the pros and cons are of opening space to private companies.
