Some of the most amazing castles and chateaux in France that are still lived in today. First up: Chateau de Brissac. Located in the beautiful countryside of France, this place has been dubbed the giant of the Loire Valley. It is home to the Marchioness of Brissac, Larissa, and her family, and it’s also a working bed-and-breakfast. The family lives in a private sanctuary hidden deep within the castle that features five bedrooms, six baths, a lavish dining room, stylish reception room and full kitchen. Guests to the castle over the years have included France’s King Louis XIII (back in 1620) and A-list celebrities such as Sophia Loren and Jeremy Irons.

Chateau de Brissac is seven stories high (the tallest castle in France) and contains more than 200 rooms, including a 1,000-square-foot ballroom, private theater and five opulent guest rooms. It’s surrounded by 145 acres of gorgeous parkland, including woodlands and flower beds, and is also home to 70 acres of vineyards.
The Chateau de Tennessus sits on an 8-foot-deep moat, and the medieval house comes complete with a fully funtional drawbridge. There are 27 rooms constructed around a central fortified tower, and not only does a family live there full time, but they also rent out some of the guest suites.
The magnificent Chateau de Canisy was a bachelor party pad for owner Denis de Kergorlay who inherited it as a young man. He insists that it is now well maintained and comfortable.
Chateau de Villandry is one of the most visited tourist sites in Europe, especially the top of the grand ancient tower, which provides a breathtaking view of the 15 acres of ornamental gardens. But it’s also home to Henri Carvallo and his family. Henri has lived there most of his life and is thrilled that his sons are getting to grow up there, too.
