My name is Sola Rey and I’m a New York City artist & digital curator. Needless to say, I love beautiful things that stimulates all five of my senses. I thought it would be nice to share some of my favorites and experiences with you.
I have a passion for Beauty, Fashion, Interior Design, Music, Art, History, Travel, Science & Technology. I’m also in search of intellectual and spiritual pursuits.
You live once on this beautiful blue planet, explore as much as you can!
If you have any interesting, good quality beautiful unknown photos & videos of things like ancient African relics or ancient African sites that the world should know of please submit through the contact section.
I have traveled to Monaco, St-Tropez, Cannes, French Riviera, Italy, Geneva, Switzerland, Antibes, Paris, France, London, England, Nice, Düsseldorf, Germany, Old San Juan, Carolina, Puerto Rico & Haiti (that’s off the top of my head)
I was an underground Artist in direct contact with DJs all over the world from 2006-2012 (Google Translate was God sent!) through Myspace. After a while I became an expert at reading and understanding what a person was trying to convey in broken English. It was one of the best times in my life. I even taught myself HTML code and custom designed my Myspace. I had more club play world wide than radio play, although I do have a few Playlist from France and Asia.
What I do is blend different music genres together. I hear it in my mind sometimes and I drive some of the Djs/Producers crazy in helping me to create that sound.
I started writing poetry & songs at the tender age 11, then did some modeling & acting starting around 13 years old. I grew up listening to old French, American, Reggae, Samba, Zouk/Kizomba and Latin music mostly. I eventually got bored and started listening to Rock, EDM, Break beat, Dub, Bollywood/Indian and other world music. This became an issue later on in the future when people in the Industry didn’t know what to categorize me as. I didn’t seem to fit any mold. One song will do well in Italy and another in Japan.
It’s tough as a woman but I was very lucky to have Dj spins and requests. I eventually started creating a Dj list and submitting exclusives that way. I was always getting tracks for free and doing 3-5 drops a week. After a while it was just exhausting to run to the studio in Manhattan during the cold winters, so I invested in a mike and had custom built my own music computer at home for drops and did post-production using Nuendo-Steinberg software with the help of a friend and Ableton software too. I even dabbled a bit in making my own beats on Protools. I had two computers at that time.
I have a natural jazzy way of singing but it’s mixed in with rock/rap/RnB/etc.. all in one.
It’s hard for people to define it – growing up listening to different styles of music, its all incorporated. If you listen carefully, you’ll hear it. Call it what you want.
I had 3 offers; One was to be a Jazz singer, the other a Rapper and 3rd was a bad recording contract from Australia (My Ent-lawyer didn’t like the offer). Needless to say, I had no creative input.
I took a break, worked, started blogging in 2012 (I needed an outlet) traveled and got married.
