The 22-year-old New Yorker stole the show during fashion week. She was chosen to walk for designers Stella McCartney, Emporio Armani and Tommy Hilfiger to name a few.

They are cover stars, editorial subjects, brand ambassadors, catwalk strutters, as well social media butterflies. They are models. And without them, the system doesn’t work. Most have the career spans of an athlete while a few manage to capture our attention for decades. This year a handful of models broke out from the many, from their editorial prowess to their runway reign including Jess Picton Warlow, Mayowa Nicholas, Vittoria Ceretti, Faretta, Luna Bijl, Ellen Rosa, Yue Han, Mckenna Hallam, Brittany Noon, and Alicia Burke.

Not only have Vogue and the New York Times featured Alicia this year, the photoshoots she has been styled in highlights her strong angles.

Nevertheless, modeling has always been in her trajectory even before Pulse Models’ Caribbean Model Search. After winning the contest last year, Alicia still never imagined she would get the opportunities to walk in show after show.

When I was younger I would walk around my house and imagine being on the runway or in front of the camera taking pictures,” Alicia tells Vogue.

I never imagined I would get to walk for the likes of Ralph Lauren, Dolce & Gabbana, and Stella McCartney—it’s such an honor and a dream come true.”

Though her newfound career is worlds away from medicine, the change of pace has proved exciting.

Among the highlights thus far are seeing herself in the pages of Vogue’s French edition and getting to try out Gigi Hadid’s Tommy Hilfiger capsule collection before anyone else.

“I am in love with Tommy x Gigi!” says Burke. “I would go home with any item from that collection.

Every model dreams of her big break on the catwalk, but some have been thinking about it a little longer than most.

“When I was younger I would walk around my house and imagine being on the runway or in front of the camera taking pictures,” says Alicia Burke, the elegant Jamaican newcomer who has been having an impressive Spring 2017.

Burke has spent the season making key appearances at shows for the biggest designers.
