Africa is the second most populated continent in the world?

With around 1.2 billion people, or estimated 15% of the world’s population, Africa is the second most populated continent in the world. There are 1250-3000 native languages. It contains 54 fully recognized sovereign states (countries) & hosts a large diversity of ethnicities, cultures and languages.

Obviously this chart is not counting the African descendants out side the continent.

The world is made up of thousands of ethnic groups.

China and India are the most populous countries.

Africa covers 6% of Earth‘s total surface area and 20.4 % of its total land area. It accounts for about 16% of the world’s human population. The continent is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, both the Suez Canal and the Red Sea along the Sinai Peninsula to the northeast, the Indian Ocean to the southeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. The continent includes Madagascar and various archipelagos.

Historical migration of human populations begins with the movement of Homo erectus out of Africa across Eurasia about a million years ago. Homo sapiens appear to have occupied all of Africa about 150,000 years ago, moved out of Africa 50,000 – 60,000 years ago, and had spread across Australia, Asia and Europe by 30,000 years BC. Migration to the Americas took place 20,000 to 15,000 years ago, and by 2,000 years ago, most of the Pacific Islands were colonized.
